A little about us... The original He Dog Day School opened in 1893. In 1935, the new He Dog Consolidated Day School was opened. In August of 1950, He Dog School became part of the Todd County School District.
Today, the He Dog School compound is comprised of nine buildings. He Dog School has always been a Pre-School through 8th Grade school. Because we must abide by our restructuring plans, He Dog has become a Pre-School through 5th Grade school. He Dog School is located on the west end of the Rosebud Reservation near Parmelee, S.D. It is one of nine elementary schools in the Todd County School District. He Dog School serves three communities: He Dog, Upper Cut Meat, and Parmelee. The He Dog School student body is 100% Native American. Staff Statistics -Our Teaching staff include: seven classroom teachers, one Exceptional Education teacher, one P.E. teacher, one band/vocal music teacher, one counselor. Our support staff include: seven classroom paraprofessionals, one Exceptional Education paraprofessional, one home/school liaison, two cooks, two bus driver/custodians, and one custodian. Curriculum- He Dog School’s curriculum include: Balanced Literacy, Math Investigations, Inquiry-based Math Instruction, Science/Social Studies, and Physical Education. Special Services & Programs Programs and Services provided at He Dog School include: Reading Recovery, Choice Theory, Positive Behavior Interventions & Strategies, Literacy/Math Coach, Gifted & Talented, TAT’s, Developmental Counseling, Exceptional Education, After School, School Improvement Council, and Head Start Transitions. Extracurricular & Academic Activities- He Dog School offers clubs and sports such as: Student Council, Sunk Bloka Oka (drum group), Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Basketball, Wrestling, Cross Country/Track, and our Annual Wacipi. |
